Senti de perto em momento crítico a situação deste país que tenho como o de maior miséria e o mais pobre do mundo. Não tem qualquer comparação possível com a Nicarágua, pobre também, é certo, como certos comentadores televisivos em Portugal têm dito.
Há meia dúzia de anos nem o aeroporto funcionava, por falta de energia, e os esgotos corriam a céu aberto pelas ruas de Port – au - Prince.
No século XVIII o filósofo Voltaire considerou o terramoto de Lisboa como o maior desastre da Humanidade conhecida. Para as dimensões do Haiti, além do mais sobrepovoado, esta catástrofe, decorrente dum sismo intenso e prolongado, é porventura, se considerada em proporção, a maior catástrofe de sempre.
Muitas ONG e Governos têm dado o máximo para minorar o sofrimento deste povo já tão sofrido. Através de organizações credíveis todos nós temos de fazer o mesmo. Em comentários apontaremos algumas pistas para isso.

ResponderEliminarI know that we have all been saddened by the disastrous earthquake in Haiti. The news reports, the reports from Rotarians in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and the images in our newspapers and on TV have shocked all of us.
As Rotarians, we want to provide assistance just as we did for the Tsunami, Katrina and numerous other natural disasters. Disaster relief teams are arriving daily, including many Rotarians. Search and Rescue teams with rescue dogs from Canada and the United States are already hard at work searching the rubble for victims. Many have been rescued . . . others were not as lucky. ShelterBox now has a team on the ground in Haiti with nearly 2000 ShelterBoxes scheduled to arrive shortly..
Facebook and other social networking groups are coming together to raise funds to provide much needed aide.
I want to make you aware of the various opportunities for providing aide and relief. Each of these opportunities through Rotary and the American Red Cross will insure that your contributions provide the aide you want to give.
Forward this message to other Rotarians and Rotary clubs, Let's join together to do all we can to help the many hundreds of thousands affected by this disaster with food, water, clothing, shelter and medical supplies. We are Rotarians and this is what we do.

Shelterbox now has a team on the ground in Haiti . The following message was received today from ShelterBox Press Officer., Angelina Lambourn.
ResponderEliminarAid workers for the international disaster relief charity ShelterBox are on the ground in Port au Prince, Haiti.
ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) members Dave Eby (US), Wayne Robinson (US) and Mark Pearson (UK) arrived in the island's capital on Thursday, January 14 and have already been in contact with government officials and Rotarians in the country. The Response Team, who are completely self-sufficient, has set up base with the help of a Haitian Rotarian.
Speaking from Port au Prince, David Eby said: 'We're working hard to resolve security, logistics and communications. The city is totally devastated. Our host told us, "There is no more Haiti ."'
ShelterBox's Head of Operations John Leach said: 'We spoke with our team in Haiti this morning and already they've been working with other aid agencies and the government to assess where ShelterBoxes are most needed. 'Our priority is now getting logistics in and doing all we can to get it on the island. We're sending a ShelterBox Logistics team into Miami to work and coordinate logistics into Haiti from there.'
ShelterBox's Logistics Manager Richard Lewis added: 'We're doing everything we can to make sure emergency aid reaches the people of Haiti.
'The situation is changing by the minute and we're exploring every single avenue available to us in order to make sure the aid gets on the ground as quickly as possible.'
The ShelterBox Logistics team, made up of SRT members Mark Dyer (US), John Lacquey (US) and Ian Neal (UK), will meet a consignment of ShelterBoxes being flown into Miami, USA and run the logistics into Haiti from there.
930 ShelterBoxes have already been dispatched and are en route to Haiti while another 1,000 are being packed today at ShelterBox HQ by ShelterBox's team of volunteers. Virgin Atlantic is supporting the relief effort by flying hundreds of the ShelterBoxes on their planes.
Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic, said: "Everyone who has seen the sheer destruction in Haiti over the last few days will have been moved to help in any way they can. We will fly in as much aid as possible so that the agencies on the ground can respond to the needs of everyone in Haiti whose lives have been devastated by this tragedy."
With the need in Haiti growing each day, there are millions of people in need of emergency shelter. ShelterBox Founder Tom Henderson, OBE, says support at this time is crucial. "The support we've seen in the last few days has been staggering," he said. "It's all hands on deck for ShelterBox right across the globe. People in Haiti need our help and we will not stop until they get it. If you can help, in any way at all, I'd urge you to do so."
A ShelterBox can be purchased online at http://www.shelterboxusa.org for $1000 $US. Pass the hat at your next club meeting and have your club members make a contribution then make up the difference with club funds and purchase a ShelterBox. Read the story of one club with only 20 members that did this yesterday. Their District Governor has not challenged every club in the district to match the contribution. Remember that each ShelterBox provides shelter, bedding, cooking utensils, water purification, dishes, a portable stove, and other living essentials for up to 10 people. The nearly 2000 ShelterBoxes now on their way to Haiti will provide shelter for 20,000 people. Of course, many more will bel needed. Their web site also allows you to donate in smaller amounts. Your box will be numbered and you'll be notified where it was used.

Especialmente o Brasil, que além de ter perdido 13 militares e o sub diretor da ONU, perdeu ainda uma das mais destacadas personalidades de TODA a sua história: D. Zilda Arns.
Médica pediatra, fundadora de uma Obra já com dimensão mundial, a Pastoral da Criança, dedicou a sua vida à educação de mães e mulheres para que melhor cuidassem das suas vidas e sobretudo das vidas das crianças.
Deve ter salvo com a sua dedicação e organização, talvez milhões de pequenas vidas, que sem o cuidado e interesse desta GRANDE SENHORA não teriam vingado.
Estava no Haiti. Ensinando gente pobre a viver um pouco melhor, levando a sua experiência e conhecimentos.
Tinha 75 anos e uma tremenda vitalidade e amor ao próximo.
Um extraodinário exemplo de vida.
Uma das maiores figuras da história deste país, que ficou significativamente mais pobre.
Não é necessário rezar pela sua alma. O seu lugar há muito lhe estava reservado. Ao lado dos bons. Dos melhores. Daqueles e daquelas que foram verdadeiramente santos.
Temos que rezar para que o seu exemplo não esmoreça.

ResponderEliminarNao poderia deixar de compartilhar convosco, este breve comentario, contudo mui significante sobre a gigantesca tragedia que se abateu sobre aquela pobre populacao caribenha.
Ha que mostrar sensibilidade e solidariedade com os que permanecem vivos e com aqueles que estao a sofrer com a perca de tanta coisa e tantas vidas humanas.

Há anos houve um contacto oficial com as três cadeias de TV em Portugal, como se fizera antes noutros países. Procurava-se minorar o efeito de notícias sobre o suicídio. Sabia-se já, o suicídio tem um intenso carácter socialmente contagioso. O «gentlemen agreement» durou alguns anos. Como não é possível manter indefinidamente o mesmo grau de consciência pública, alguém o furou. Depois disso um jornalista de TV encenou o seu fim até ao pormenor, decalcando-o do suicídio dum filho de Agneli, ocorrido na semana anterior.
ResponderEliminarManter tão elevada a visão televisiva da mortandade amontoada no Haiti em nada faz crescer os níveis de solidariedade e compreensão em relação a quem sofre. Pelo contrário, mais do que atiçar a curiosidade mórbida, é um factor depressivo considerável. No entanto, como no Tsunami do Oriente ou no 11 de Setembro, a morte vai ser perdurado alimento televisivo dos serões, quantas vezes servido com um sorriso gélido dos «anunciadores». Exactamente como se dessem nota dos vencedores da lotaria ou vendessem castanhas numa dobra da rua.

Meu Caro Amigo e colega doutorando,
ResponderEliminaros meus votos de um excelente dia e que o Ano 2010 te oferte as maiores venturas pessoais e profissionais.
Envio-te este mail, em primeiro lugar porque já lá vai muito tempo, desde esse tempo, em que estivemos juntos.
Sei que as aulas do doutoramento tinham, mais que não fosse, esse lado bonito do convívio e da alegria. Tempos já idos!!!
Tenho, ao longo dos anos, participado em muitos projectos de apoio social e voluntariado e, repentinamente, a Associação Social em que eu prestado trabalho voluntário deixou de realizar as acções e tarefas onde eu participava (ocupação de tempos livres para crianças necessitadas do Bairro 6 de Maio - Damaia/Amadora).
Já lá vão alguns meses, desde que terminei esse meu trabalho. Nada tenho feito para participar em outro projecto porque a saúde tem-me traído e não tenho tido serenidade, energia e vontade.
Penso que o pior já lá vai e, esta necessidade interior de ofertar algo de mim para quem necessite, revitalizou-se.
Então lembrei-me de ti, pois sei que és um veterano nestas coisas do apoio social e na participação na Rotary Portugal.
Assim, gostaria que me enviasses a informação se poderei, e como poderei, participar nas acções solidárias dessa interessante associação que tem a máxima rotária de "Dar de Si Antes de Pensar em Si".
Fico a aguardar alguma dica tua e, até lá, faço votos para que fiques bem, com alegria e serenidade.
